Recycling has increased 10.5 percentage points in the waste authority for Wakefield

Back in 2015 Wakefield City MDC recycled 34.8% of its waste, landfilled 65.2%, and incinerated 0%.

By 2023 incineration had increased by 41 percentage points to 41%.

Recycling increased over the same period by 10.5 percentage points to 45.3%. In 2023 9.9% of waste was landfilled.

There are currently 14 years left on a contract with Renewi/Infinium. The contract has a clawback arrangement: “Within the contract, there is an energy sharing agreement above a threshold.”
