Back in 2015 Brighton and Hove Council recycled 27.1% of its waste, landfilled 3.9%, and incinerated 68.9%.
By 2023 incineration had increased by 1 percentage points to 69.9%.
Recycling increased over the same period by 2 percentage points to 29.1%. In 2023 0.9% of waste was landfilled.
There are currently 9 years left on a contract with Veolia. The total contract value is £120.6m. The contract has a clawback arrangement: “The council is entitled to a share of the electricity generation income. Details considered commercially sensitive.”
