Back in 2015 Surrey County Council recycled 53.3% of its waste, landfilled 5.9%, and incinerated 38.2%.
By 2023 incineration had decreased by 4.7 percentage points to 33.6%.
Recycling decreased over the same period by 1.3 percentage points to 52.1%. In 2023 4.3% of waste was landfilled.
There are currently 0 years left on a contract with Suez. The total contract value is £1750m. The contract has a clawback arrangement: “The Council has an energy income sharing arrangement on the Eco Park gasification facility operated by our contractor at Shepperton which is used for the treatment of a portion of Surrey’s household waste. There are no other sharing arrangements for any other sub-contracted plants.”
