Back in 2014 Glasgow City recycled 25.8% of its waste, landfilled 73.4%, and incinerated 0.8%.
By 2022 incineration had increased by 39.7 percentage points to 40.5%.
Recycling increased over the same period by 2.2 percentage points to 28%. In 2022 25% of waste was landfilled.
There are currently 20 years left on a contract with Viridor. The contract has a clawback arrangement: “The contract includes a Third-Party Income sharing mechanism which can allow the Council to share in an upside in revenue from the sale of recyclables and energy production.”
Notes:
The interactive table below shows how waste has been dealt with in authorities in the region between 2014/15 and 2022/23.
