Recycling has increased 8.2 percentage points in the waste authority for Cardiff

Back in 2015 Cardiff recycled 53.4% of its waste, landfilled 32.6%, and incinerated 12.5%.

By 2023 incineration had increased by 26.8 percentage points to 39.2%.

Recycling increased over the same period by 8.2 percentage points to 61.6%. In 2023 0.7% of waste was landfilled.

There are currently 17 years left on a contract with Viridor. The total contract value is £157m. The contract has a clawback arrangement: “The contract contains gain share arrangements between the council and the contractor but the details of the agreements are exempt under Section 43(2)Prejudice to Commercial Interests.”
