Back in 2015 Milton Keynes Council recycled 52.1% of its waste, landfilled 21.4%, and incinerated 26.4%.
By 2023 incineration had decreased by 3.2 percentage points to 23.2%.
Recycling decreased over the same period by 3.9 percentage points to 48.3%. In 2023 0.6% of waste was landfilled.
There are currently 9 years left on a contract with Thalia. The total contract value is £162.5m. The contract has a clawback arrangement: “The income from the sale of electricity, recyclate and 3rd party waste offsets the council’s disposal cost. The contract includes a 3rd party income mechanism.”
