Back in 2015 Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council recycled 45% of its waste, landfilled 1.3%, and incinerated 53.7%.
By 2023 incineration had increased by 11.3 percentage points to 65.1%.
Recycling decreased over the same period by 18.6 percentage points to 26.4%. In 2023 5.1% of waste was landfilled.
The waste authority for Redcar and Cleveland is Tees Valley Joint Waste Management Strategy. There are currently #VALUE! years left on a contract with Suez.
