Back in 2015 Portsmouth City Council recycled 26% of its waste, landfilled 6.5%, and incinerated 67.4%.
By 2023 incineration had decreased by 1.8 percentage points to 65.7%.
Recycling increased over the same period by 1.8 percentage points to 27.8%. In 2023 3.7% of waste was landfilled.
There are currently 6 years left on a contract with Veolia. The contract has a clawback arrangement: “An income share agreement (50/50) for electricity produced for the National Grid between the Authority and Veolia applies from 2024.”
