Back in 2015 North Somerset Council recycled 61.1% of its waste, landfilled 18.2%, and incinerated 16.6%.
By 2023 incineration had increased by 15.6 percentage points to 32.1%.
Recycling decreased over the same period by 1.8 percentage points to 59.4%. In 2023 7.8% of waste was landfilled.
The waste authority for North Somerset is West of England Waste Partnership. There are currently 6 years left on a contract with Suez/Viridor. The total contract value is £50m.
